Tesco shopping API

TJam is a first for Tesco.com and the event is split into 2 parts. The 1st part is a day session where we're inviting a mixture of customers and creative thinkers where with some expert facilitation, we will have a series of brainstorms around 6 key topics to gather new ideas, some of which will be worked out in more detail. The 6 topics will be quite high level and will be things like "How to help customers live a healthier lifestyle", "How to make the online shopping experience better than in store" etc. I'm expecting a range of about 300 ideas at a top line level (across all themes) and probably around 30 ideas in more detail which will then be made available for review in the evening session with developers.

The 2nd part will be in the evening where we will then invite a number of developers to review and build on the best ideas. Our head of R&D will be holding a master class on how to use our new Grocery APIs (allows 3rd parties to replicate core pieces of our functionality, such as login, add to basket etc) and the hope is that the developers will take these ideas away and implement them - the incentive being that we will set them up as an affiliate so that we will pay for every new customer that they send our way. The more successful they are, the more they will earn.

It promises to be a highly rewarding and energetic day and it would be great if you could attend the customer/creative session. If you would be interested in attending or know of anyone else at Google that you think might be interested, please let me know and I'll send you the link to sign up.

The signup links are:

How much will you pay in the affiliates scheme?
We working on this at the moment but ballpark figures are:
£5.00 for each new customer who places an order
£0.10 for every checkout above a certain value floor (say at least £50).
Our company end-of-year results show that we delivered an average of 250,000 orders a week last year and it grows all the time. If your app took on 0.1% of that amount (250 orders a week) and you added 10 new customers a week then you would make £75 a week using the above figures.

Be sensible, though: Your application would be great until something better comes along. There will be winners and losers. Keep your feet on the ground and focus on what customers are really asking for.

  1. Over the past few years, the world has changed a lot and marketplaces for e-commerce have become popular. You can easily go into an online business and connect various modules for your e-commerce platform and sell products in 2 clicks.
